Dark Souls II Diary Part 01

4:43 PM -

They tried to warn me.
Dark Souls has always been a bit of an enigma to me. People sure do seem to like it! I know there is also a large group of people who despise these games. I don't have much experience with the series outside of a few frustrating hours with Bloodborne - a game also developed by From Software in which you die repeatedly with no sense of what to do or where to go. Yep, I'm still salty about that game. Sour feelings aside, I've always wanted to love these games. I see people ranting and raving about their seemingly impossible in-game achievements, and dammit I want to be a part of that secret society! So the other day I picked up a pre-owned copy of Dark Souls II : Scholar of The First Sin. Instead of reviewing it, I'm going to keep a diary of my Dark Souls journey. I might just die trying, but I fully intend to see Dark Souls II to the very end.

Steep gets free DLC in February; Version 1.04 is now live

9:01 AM -

Ubisoft's very good winter sports game Steep is getting a free piece of DLC next month which will take players to a completely brand new mountain in Alaska. The DLC will feature a whole bunch of new lines and challenges for fans to complete and explore. Ubisoft Annecy has yet to elaborate on specific details about the Alaskan themed mountain, but it's nice to know that they will be continuing to support Steep, hopefully 2017 will bring much more content to this already fantastic game. The Alaska DLC will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC for the admission price of completely free starting February 10.

What's more, update 1.04 is now live as of January 27, which adds a host of new features and gameplay tweaks including

  • Tweaks to jumping accuracy
  • New Dashboard
  • Fixed destructiveness of G-Force Impact
  • Better Mountain View display
  • New Director Mode to enhance recordings
  • Other gameplay enhancements and improvements

And on top of all this awesome stuff is the new monthly Steep World Tour Tournament, which is a monthly event where players will square off to qualify for finals which begin early next month.

If you want to know more about Steep you can find Greg's impression here, which just so happened to inspire me to run out and pick it up for myself. At the time of this writing, Steep is on sale for the awesome price of $29.99 at GameStop - I hope to see you on the mountain!

Games With Gold Lineup - February 2017

10:18 AM -

February 2017's Games with Gold offerings have been announced, and for the first time in a few months we see 4 games that I do not already own! Score! As always all Games With Gold titles are available for free download to any Xbox Live Gold member.

Xbox One
For the entire month of February gamers will be treated to Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time. And from February 16 - March 15 you will be able to download Project Cars.

Xbox 360
On the Xbox 360 side, Monkey Island 2 SE will be available from the 1st of the month to the 15th of February, and then comes Star Wars: Force Unleashed, which will be downloadable until the 28th. As always the 360 titles will be backwards compatible and fully playable on both Xbox consoles. After watching Rogue One I was seriously considering picking up Force Unleashed, it's a great game and I wouldn't mind finishing it again.

Overwatch's latest seasonal event is now live!

2:48 PM -

The Lunar New Year is upon us and Blizzard has released over 100 brand new cosmetic items including 13 brand new skins just in time to celebrate. From now until February 13th, fans will be able to purchase or compete to earn Lunar Loot Boxes which are guaranteed to contain at least one Year Of The Rooster themed item, four items total. And to top it all off, they have also included a brand new new competitive brawl mode - capture the rooster, and it is awesome. Let's have a look at the new skins!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild for NES Is available for pre order at Gamestop

The Switch port will probably suck. What system will you be playing it on?

Star Fox 64 is available on Wii U virtual console today

4:13 PM -

Unfortunately I don't recommend paying 9.99$ it unless you really plan on building your Wii U digital collection because, as we all know by now the very (hopefully!) promising looking Nintendo Switch will launch on March 3, 2017. It's also not certain what the Switch's Virtual Console selection will consist of or if Nintendo has any plans of letting their customers transfer any of their content.
